Electronic NOTAMs Outage May 28, 2011

Friday, May 27, 2011 @ 10:26 PM

Notices to Airman (NOTAMs) will be unavailable for a 4.5 hour period tomorrow, May 28, from 0600Z to 1030Z. The planned outage will affect the ability of pilots planning flights over that period to obtain NOTAM's electronically.

The FAA is in the process of moving the US NOTAM System from Herndon, VA to its new location in Oklahoma City, OK as part of its efforts to relocate the Air Traffic Control System Command Center (ATCSCC) to a new location in Warrenton, VA.

Pilots will be able to electronically obtain NOTAMs up until the start of the outage.  During the outage pilots are encouraged to contact Flight Service at 1-800-WX-BRIEF (800-992-7433) or their local flight service station (FSS) via radio if in the air as FSS employees will have access to all NOTAMs.

May 21 : International Learn to Fly Day!

Thursday, May 12, 2011 @ 10:45 AM

International Learn to Fly Day was announced at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2009 as an effort to increase interest in flying and to encourage the aviation community to get others involved in aviation.  If you've ever wanted to experience the thrill of flight, mark your calendar for May 21 and check the Calendar of Events to find a Learn To Fly Day event near you.  And if you're already a pilot, International Learn to Fly Day is the perfect excuse to share your love of flying with a family member or friend!
