Filing for flight IN/OUT of Washington DC FRZ Messages in this topic - RSS

Last weekend I flew to DC. I tried to file through the website planner and it gave me an error that I have tried to file a VFR flight into FRZ even though I selected IFR.
That said, I think this functionality is misleading. All flights in or out of FRZ airports require filing flight plans by phone with the FRZ specialist(1-866-225-7410). I think it would better if the flight planning wizard was explicit about FRZ operations instead of returning "failed to file" message.
Is it possible to detect if the FROM or TO airport is inside the FRZ and if it is, don't give the option of filing and instead give them the phone number to call and a link to FRZ instructions. The following link contains all the useful documents:

Hi Sammy,

Thanks for your post! For the VFR DC SFRA flight plans, we automatically submit two (or three if you are passing through the DC SFRA area) flight plans on your behalf (one IFR to/from the airport within the SFRA to the SFRA Gate and a VFR plan between the DC gate and your departure or arrival airport).

However, we see the issue you encountered over the weekend for a complete IFR flight plan. We've submitted a question to our contacts at CSC DUATS to clarify the correct procedure here. We'll follow up with another post here and modify our functionality as necessary as soon as we have clarification!

Hi Sammy,

I did unfortunately confirm with our contact at CSC DUATS that electronic IFR filing to/from airports within the DC FRZ zone is not available. I have added an item to our "To Do" list to check if the from or to airport is one of the restricted airports (W32, KVKX, KCGS) and, if so, show a message indicating filing is not available.

Thanks for your inquiry on this issue and we apologize for not having it accounted for already!

One final update on this topic. Over the weekend, we launched the latest version of iFlightPlanner.com, which included the ability to recognize if you're flying from or to an FRZ airport. If so, it will not allow filing, but rather show you a message indicating who you need to call to file.

Thanks!
