Confusing JVL VOR w/ JVL NDB? Messages in this topic - RSS

Hello. I'm planning a flight from 10C (Galt) to KRST. When I rubberband a point on my flight path to the JVL VOR the UI appears to be snapping to the JVL NDB instead. Oddly, I can't see a JVL NDB charted anywhere. Can anyone else reproduce this?

Thank you for the heads-up on this! We've reproduced the behavior on our end and will be working on a fix... We'll let you know as soon it's squared away.

Hello. This issue seems to persist. Entering the plan C29 MSN JVL JOT KLOT always pegs to the NDB, and there doesn't seem to be a way to correct it, short of dragging the point to the proper place on the chart and leaving it as a lat/long. Is there a better workaround?

Thanks for your post! When duplicate waypoints are present (i.e. JVL), our routing algorithm uses the one closest in distance to the previous waypoint. When coming from the north/northeast, that is the JVL NDB. From the south/southwest it would be the JVL VOR. Dragging the waypoint and leaving it as a lat/lon is currently the best weorkaround.

However, we are looking at the duplicate waypoints in our database (which originate from official FAA data) and considering ways to give the VORs complete priority over the NDBs in routing, however we need to make sure that won't have any adverse affect on pilots who still do use NDBs in routes.

As a pilot, do you ever use NDBs? As always, the input from members of the aviation community will help shape our feature development.

Nope, my ADF is inop.

Understanding the potential problem with forcing selection of VORs over NDBs, another approach might be to provide a tag that could tell your routing algorithm which navaid to use -- something like JVL:V vs. JVL:N. It seems this would reduce the potential side-effects of a global change in the algorithm. Just a thought...

Thanks!

Thanks for the follow up message!

It's ironic you should mention the additional notation to differentiate waypoints. We originally had logic along those lines in our route parsing, but took it out a while back as part of a different set of changes. We have made a note to review how we may reinstate that capability to help in these situations.
