Swift Fuels’ 100R unleaded aviation gasoline has received ASTM International specification approval, marking a key milestone in the transition away from leaded avgas. ASTM approval establishes a global production standard, providing the FAA and other regulators with a recognized benchmark for fuel certification. With this approval, the FAA can now expand its Approved Model List beyond Cessna 172R and 172S aircraft with Lycoming IO-360-L2A engines. Swift officials noted that the process included hundreds of tests overseen by the FAA and conducted in collaboration with major OEMs, including Lycoming, Continental, Rotax, Textron, and Piper. Industry groups, including AOPA, welcomed the development as a positive step toward broader adoption of unleaded aviation fuels.
