Aviation Advocates Welcome Approval of Pilot Mental Wellness Legislation

Wednesday, June 18, 2025 @ 5:12 PM

via General Aviation News

Aviation advocacy groups are praising the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee for advancing bipartisan legislation to improve access to mental health care for aviators. The Mental Health in Aviation Act of 2025 directs the FAA to update regulations that remove barriers to treatment, funds nearly $40 million over three years for awareness and support programs, and requires implementation of recommendations from the FAA’s Mental Health and Aviation Medical Clearances Rulemaking Committee. Both NBAA and AOPA emphasized that the bill strikes a balance between safety and encouraging pilots to seek help without fear of unnecessary punishment.

iFlightPlanner will continue monitoring developments around pilot mental health legislation and related FAA policies to help ensure pilots stay informed of regulatory changes impacting aviation safety and wellness.

AOPA President & CEO Darren Pleasance testified before the U.S. House Aviation Subcommittee, highlighting progress on the 2024 FAA Reauthorization and pressing priorities for general aviation. He cited gains such as expanded BasicMed, a new national DPE office, improved registry privacy and processing, and assurances that 100LL remains available during the transition to unleaded fuels. New Hampshire Airport Sees Birth of New FBO Chain

Tuesday, June 10, 2025 @ 8:00 AM

via AIN Online

A new FBO chain has taken flight with the purchase of Infinity Aviation Group at Nashua Airport/Boire Field (KASH) in New Hampshire. The acquisition, led by industry veteran Steven Levesque and backed by infrastructure investment manager Igneo, keeps the Infinity Aviation name and positions it to expand into a national brand. Located just 50 miles from Boston, the FBO offers full maintenance, avionics, and repair services, along with jet charter, management, and aircraft sales. A separate deal to acquire Nashua Jet Aviation’s hangar operations expands Infinity’s footprint to more than 150,000 sq ft, supporting aircraft up to a Gulfstream G550.

iFlightPlanner will update its FBO and fuel data to reflect the change at KASH, ensuring pilots using iFlightPlanner and iFlightPlanner for AOPA have the most accurate, current information for trip planning and fuel purchasing decisions.

What’s New in iFlightPlanner and iFlightPlanner for AOPA

Wednesday, June 4, 2025 @ 10:00 AM

Over the past few months, we’ve gathered feedback from pilots who want a smoother, more seamless planning experience. The result? Four high‑impact updates that directly address the most common requests from our community:

iFlightPlanner Multi-Leg Planning & Terrain Profile

1. Multi‑Leg Trip Planning with Fuel Stops

Gone are the days of piecing together a cross‑country route one leg at a time. With our new Multi‑Leg Trip Planning feature, you can:

  • Create a single trip that includes every waypoint and fuel stop.
  • View and edit all legs in one unified interface—no more switching back and forth.
  • See total distance, estimated fuel burn, and alternates for each segment at a glance.

Whether you’re planning a quick afternoon hop or a multi‑state adventure, you’ll save time and eliminate unnecessary headaches.

2. Real‑Time Flight Plan Notifications from Flight Service

Staying on top of IFR clearances, VFR activations, and closures just got easier. Now, iFlightPlanner for AOPA will:

  • Push automatic alerts whenever your flight plan status changes.
  • Display inbound ATC clearances or flight plan cancellations in real time.
  • Allow you to authorize Flight Service once and receive notifications seamlessly.

No more manually refreshing or wondering if your flight plan has been picked up—our system keeps you informed the moment something changes.

3. New Profile View for Terrain Awareness

Terrain awareness is critical, especially when you’re flying unfamiliar routes. Our new Terrain Profile View:

  • Shows an elevation profile of your entire route, highlighting potential danger areas.
  • Visualizes high‑ground, mountainous regions in a simple color-coded cross‑section.
  • Helps you make more informed routing decisions before you climb into the cockpit.

With this tool, you’ll build safer, more confident flight plans—especially in mountainous or hilly terrain.

4. Single Sign‑On Access with AOPA Credentials

Tired of juggling multiple usernames and passwords? Our new Single Sign‑On (SSO) integration lets AOPA members:

  • Sign into iFlightPlanner for AOPA using their existing AOPA username and password.
  • Skip extra account setup steps—no separate iFlightPlanner login required.
  • Access all features on desktop and mobile with one seamless authentication.

Whether you’re checking a weather brief on your iPad or filing a plan from a coffee shop, you’ll spend less time logging in and more time preparing for your next flight!
